Shona Innes

Bio

Shona S.E Innes is a qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique and in 1998 she completed the 3 year Alexander Technique Teacher Training under the direction of Duncan Woodcock at the Melbourne Alexander Teacher Training School.

Shona teaches Alexander Technique in private practice in the Melbourne suburbs of Ascot Vale, Fitzroy and Footscray and in 2016 is also teaching the Technique at the Drama School of the Victorian College of Arts.   Shona has danced from a young age and has worked with movement as a performer and educator since 1980.  She has taught functional anatomy, movement fundamentals, Ideokinesis and Improvisation, principally at the Victorian College of the Arts and Victoria University tertiary dance and performance programs from 1984 – 1998.

Aside from working in the arts field for many years Shona has also worked within the public hospital system as an Allied Health therapy assistant – Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and speech pathology.  She has a particular interest in the field of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) after having worked in a specialist ABI residential unit for 9 years. Shona continues to see a small number of individual ABI clients as an Alexander Technique teacher/movement educator.

Shona has been a student of Buddhism since 1992. Initially she studied with the Thervadin nun Ayya Khema followed by a 9-year period of practice in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of the Venerable Traleg Rinpoche. Since 2004 Shona has been practicing within the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism as a student of Zen Master Ekai Korematsu Osho in Melbourne. In 2014 she received the Mahayana Bodhisattva Precepts to become a lay ordained practitioner within the Soto Zen tradition. www.jikishoan.org.au
